The job was never receiving

For most of this year, the first thing this site said was that you could receive money from anywhere in the world. It was true. It was also the least interesting thing about the product, and it described the wrong half of what people were actually doing.

What people actually do

Watch how someone uses a product like this and the pattern is hard to miss. They sign up to receive Bitcoin or stablecoins. The money arrives. And then, often within the hour, they turn it into cedis or naira and send it to their mobile money wallet or their bank.

Receiving was never the outcome they wanted. It was the step they put up with on the way to the outcome. The thing they came for was local money in an account they already use - and if you name your product after the step people tolerate, you have described your plumbing rather than their day.

One movement, however many destinations

So the product is now the other half, stated plainly: money leaves a Bitcoin or stablecoin balance and lands where the person being paid already keeps theirs. A mobile money number, a bank account, or a wallet address - a destination is a destination.

That one sentence covers what used to look like separate products. Paying your own account is an off-ramp. Paying one other person is a remittance. An organization paying its field staff is a disbursement. They are the same movement with a different number of destinations, and nothing about the machinery underneath changes between them.

Nobody on the other end has to join anything

The person being paid needs no Gyvar account, no wallet, and no Bitcoin. They get paid the way they already get paid. That is not a limitation we are working around - it is the point. A payment that requires the recipient to learn something first is not finished.

Fundraising did not go anywhere

A public page with a story, a target and campaigns people can give to is still here, and it still works. It is one of the ways money can start moving, alongside a standing address and a link you send to a client. The money lands in the same balance every payment leaves from.

What changed is the name over the door. Fundraising is a feature of a payments product, rather than the product with payments bolted on. We started there because it is where borders hurt most and where we could help fastest - and the rails we built for it turn out to carry a payroll run, a supplier invoice, and someone moving their own money home.

Pay anyone, the borderless way.

Open an account, fund it with Bitcoin or stablecoins, and settle in local currency.
